Philip Hudson, Chief Horticultural Advisor for the National Farmers Union expressed the view that, despite the cucumber industry having endured a couple of traumatic years, he felt that there were several reasons to be cheerful for the future. More emphasis was being placed on food security, the focus on five-a-day fruit and vegetables and the fact that the public really wanted to purchase British product. He did, however, acknowledge that much more needed to be done to promote the benefits of the 'red tractor' logo to the general public.
