Already attracting a lot of interest from Dutch tomato growers, the closed glasshouse concept means just that as regardless of exterior temperatures and global irradiation, the roof windows are kept closed. Although there are now a number of differentsystems, basically they are all designed to do a similar sort of job. Instead of loosing excess heat through the roof, it is extracted from the air, transformed into hot water, and then stored for use during the winter months. At the same time, cold water is transformed into cold air and blasted under the crop to cool the house on hot summer days.
