Evaluation methods in telehealth: getting to outcomes-a physician's insight.

Whether evaluating the success of a program, meeting quality improvement goals, or designing a research agenda, telehealth program assessment can include implicit, explicit, and cost-based measures. Indeed, cost-benefit analysis and return on investment calculations are topics that must be included in most telemedicine programs, especially those involving new equipment. Telemedicine and e-Health has a rich history in this arena with peer-reviewed research on topics such as: how the economic evaluation of telemedicine must evolve as other aspects of the field change and advance; guidelines for creating a cost-benefit analysis; and a specific strategy primer on getting to the root of the business of telemedicine (see Peer-reviewed original research papers for. more information).
