摘要

EPA has proposed strengthening ground-level ozone standards by reducing the eight-hour level to 0.060-0.070 parts per million (ppm), its strictest to date, from 0.075 ppm set in March 2008 under the Bush Administration. The agency says that the new level is within the range recommended by the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC). EPA was widely criticized when it last changed the standard for failing to heed CASAC's recommendation. The new standards are expected to be issued in August, following a 60-day public comment period.
