A greener cell: Test-cell development needs to be pushed through fast to enable OEMs and services providers to keep pace with the changes demanded by customers

Emissions test technology has evolved over the last 25 years to the point where the testing and equipment are very sophisticated and expensive. Managers of test cells are striving to improve the throughput and utilization of testing equipment in order to move from a laboratory mind-set to a production test environment. Computer technology has helped automate calibration, and emissions analytical equipment and chassis dynamometers. However, one area remains to he successfully conquered - fixing the vehicle on the test stand. In addition to improving throughput, other benefits could he realized by automating the process.
