摘要

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of disability and death worldwide. Atherosclerosis is the major underlying pathological process of CVD and is highly prevalent in western societies. Atherogenesis has numerous genetic and environmental risk factors, and abnormalities of plasma lipids and lipoproteins account for approx50% of the population attributable risk of developing CVD. Plasma-lipid and lipoprotein levels are themselves highly heritable-estimates range from 40%-60% for total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TGs).
