AEP in market for rail, barge coal to supply App Power plants

American Electric Power Service is in the market for coal to supply one or more power plants in the Appalachian Power system. It's a bargain hunt, for sure -- witness the 2008 start date -- but that doesn't mean tons won't be purchased. Proposals are due February 9. Term proposals must be kept open through February 23. AEP "will they get some tons off of it, probably," a CAPP supplier told U.S. Coal Review. "Will they get as much as they want? Probably not. People don't want to lock in term right now." AEP said it might enter into one or more agreements, each for the supply of a minimum of 10,000 tons/month of coal and up to a maximum of 1 million tons of coal/year, delivered by rail (CSX -Kanawha District), or barge beginning as early January 1, 2008.
