The primary goal of the Tri-State Potato Variety Development Program is to develop and commercialize new potato varieties to benefit the Northwest potato industry. The fresh market industry, french fry processors and chippers have incorporated many varieties developed through the Tri-State variety development program into their businesses. Varieties recently released by the Tri-State program are now produced on more than 140,000 acres in the Pacific Northwest with value to growers estimated at approximately 505 million dollar.
