Restructuring hits former Ciba businesses / Global job cuts in Plastic Additives and Pigments units

As part of its plan to improve the profitability of its Performance Products segment in Europe, BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) is restructuring the segment's various businesses. Altogether, the planned moves will lead to 771 job losses across the portfolio. Including redundancies in R&D and administrative functions, mainly in Switzerland, the latest moves will take a toll of around 500 positions. Businesses acquired with Basel-based Ciba in 2009 apparently will be the hardest hit. BASF's European Pigments and Resins businesses is based in the greater Basel area; however, in future, product and quality management for this market will be consolidated at the group's Ludwigshafen headquarters, with global product management centred at Hong Kong / China.
