Xstrata’s Tahmoor mine workers to extend strike by week

Xstrata’s Tahmoor metallurgical coal mining complex in Australia’s New South Wales, which is currently suffering a week-long strike that started July 9, will see the industrial action continue for a further week until July 23. Xstrata told Platts Wednesday that it was notified of a further week’s worth of 24 hour strikes to start July 17 at 11pm. The action is part of a long-running dispute with miners and other staff over a working agreement and follows a call for a 24-hour strike at the mine on July 2 by 250 workers under the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU).
