Anew system is suggested here for the evaluation of the main attributes of tea viz. leaf appearance and liquors on a more objective basis as A+, A,B+/B,C+ and C so that the results can be plotted on a graph as shown below. If these are superimposed ona graph of tea prices over the year, it would serve as a useful tool in minimizing seasonal variation in quality over a period of time. Two graphs should be made, one for leaf appearance and the second for liquors as both factors determine the prices fetched for graded teas offered in the weekly auctions. Similarly, apart from the prices fetched by the concerned estate, the district average can also be plotted on the graph so that it would be possible to compare the two and conclude whether changes inthe market (normally dictated by demand and supply factors) or quality variations resulted in price fluctuations.
