摘要

The tea crop in India is subjected to the attack of several insect and mite pests, fungal pathogens and weeds. Though it would be ideal to keep the tea crop free of pesticides, the proposition becomes unrealistic due to infestation by pests, pathogensand weeds. The usage of pesticides on tea plantations in India is largely governed by their maximum residue limit (MRL) in tea stipulated by the Government of India under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act. The MRLs of pesticides on tea proposed by the European Union, EPA of USA, Japan and the Codex are also taken into consideration by the growers while selecting pesticides for application on tea (Table 1).
