The Exocet missile is a medium-range, sea-skimming antiship missile that can be ground-, air-, submarine-, or ship-launched. Through 2010, about 3,500 missiles have been sold to 35 countries. The missile carries a number of designations. The MM prefix refers to the surface ship-based variants. It has been produced in the MM.38 and MM.40 configurations, with the latter being the current production example. The AM prefix refers to the air-launched missile, and this version is still in regular production, having been sold to 11 countries.
