Exiled vodka tycoon Yuri Shefler risks hefty fines after losing a Dutch court clash with his native Russia over the right to use the Stolichnaya and Moskovskaya brands. The Hague Court of Appeals Jan. 9 upheld a 2015 ruling that ordered the businessman's Dutch company Spirits International to hand back the trademark rights, including those for the Stoli brand which were not included in the 2015 case. The decision marks a decade and a half of legal wrangling with a Russian government-owned company that has long claimed the names.
