摘要

The book provides an in depth expose of how the global market economy shapes, and is equally shaped by, diverse local economic realities. It echoes a common theme in overarching political ecology research in emphasising the role of capitalism in the marginalisation of indigenous populations and the perception of these populations as a resource subject to utilisation for the benefit of political and bureaucratic elements. This book takes a further step, however, in examining how these local populations can and should, develop their own ways of coping with, confronting and potentially resisting capitalism in their own territories.
