John decided to become an engineer following some sound advice from his father. Originally from Liverpool, after leaving school John completed an apprenticeship at IMI Yorkshire Copper Tube in Kirkby. The four year apprenticeship had a 'multi-skilled' syllabus covering electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering and John left armed with a BTEC ONC in electrical and electronic engineering. "The industrial experience that I got in my apprenticeship is quite sought after by employers so I have never struggled to find work."
