ONE of the most unusal locations to get an allocation of former EWS Class 66s locos is Poznan in the Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) region. Development of new flows the coal, chemicals and construction industries by Deutsche Bahn subsidiary Euro Cargo Rail has seen the need for 15 of the 250 Class 66s originally built for the UK rail network being allocated to a pool based on the depot at Poznan. The opening of Poland's network to competition has fuelled the influx of Class 66s from UK operators, with Freightliner Poland also competing for traffic.
