GB Railfreight to import more European Class 66s

A further five Class 66s are to be imported by GB Railfreight from mainland Europe. Leased from Beacon Rail, they are currently in Germany and will arrive in the UK over the next few weeks. It is expected that the locomotives, which will be renumbered 66793-66797, will enter traffic from April 2021 once brought up to UK standards. This work will likely be carried out by Electro-Motive Diesel at its Longport facility near Stoke-on-Trent. In a document seen by RAIL, the operator states that they are needed for "short-term growth aspirations". They will follow 66790-792, which were imported from Scandinavia last year and which are also leased from Beacon Rail.
