AUSTRALIA NEEDS A FLEET OF NUCLEAR SUBMARINES, AND MIGHT GET THEM

In a Comment piece in the January 2019 issue of Warship Technology I suggested that talk of the Royal Australian Navy acquiring nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) rather than conventional submarines was a 'non-starter.' The Comment was written in response to an article in the respected newspaper The Australian in October 2018 that argued that the Royal Australian Navy should acquire of nuclear-powered submarines. That argument was rehearsed in an issue of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's (ASPI's) journal, The Strategist and on its website.
