Alexander Lebed, Russia's dark swan

Nobody knows much about Alexander Lebed. He has the deepest voice in Russian politics, the flattest nose, a blunt, gruff, streetwise way with words, and he sometimes jokes about his surname, which means "swan". He has the wholesome if also rather menacing presence of a tough, large muzhik-a Russian peasant-of Cossack stock.
