GAO Delivers Mixed Review Of DHS Progress Since 2003

The Government Accountability Office delivered a mixed review Sept. 7 of the Department of Homeland Security's progress in delivering on its mission of protecting the homeland a decade after the 2011 terrorist attacks, saying that it has achieved accomplishments in some areas while more work needs to be done in others, including in emergency preparedness and response and cybersecurity. "Since it began operations in 2003, DHS has implemented key homeland security operations and achieved important goals and milestones in many areas to create and strengthen a foundation to reach its potential," GAO said.
