We must demonstrate that our programs are relevant standards-based, and truly beneficial to all students. Technology education as a profession is in a tenuous situation. With budgets becoming increasingly tighter, schools across the country are forced to make tough decisions regarding which programs will be supported and which will not. If technology education programs cannot demonstrate a tangible relevance for today's students, they will quite simply cease to exist. With technological development growing at an astonishing rate, it is more critical now than ever that we provide the best possible technology education for our students. At a conference on strengthening our youth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (SySTEM) in Milwaukee, WI, Tom Barrett, mayor of Milwaukee said: "It is imperative that we prepare our students to compete in a global economy. Imperative not only for our children, but for our economy as well."
