AIA Wants Big Boost in NASA R&D

A trade group that promotes the U.S. aerospace industry wants the American government to increase research and development funding for NASA by $34 billion over the next five years, with part of that intended to help the agency develop a new space vehicle by 2010. The $34 billion would be on top of what NASA laid out in its 2004 budget request, with $20 billion aimed at developing the new vehicle, $10 billion devoted to infrastructure improvements and $4 billion designated for aeronautics research, officials of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) said.
