摘要

This article explores the ways in which women imagine the Barbadian nation through soca performances. It focuses on soca singer Alison Hinds and her fans as they circulate through a number of sites within the wider Caribbean. Through soca performances, these women articulate notions of citizenship and nationhood that challenge masculinist, bourgeois, state definitions of the nation. This article is a close reading of the performance practices of Alison Hinds. It looks beyond lyrics to analyze women's embodied performances, as it is in these performances practices that women critique the ways in which nationalism makes use of women's bodies.
