It was a dark and stormy night. Okay, I always wanted to start an article with that famous line from the Peanuts strip. Actually, it was a bright and sunny day. I was heading over to the Garner Glider-port in Windsor, Virginia to visit with the Tidewater Soaring Society for my first contact with a glider. A few weeks earlier, I had met a gentleman who filled me in on the wonders of sailplanes and soaring. It sounded too good to be true so I assumed it was on the other side of Rock Candy Mountain, another mythological destination, one my parents used to talk about whenever I got out of line. Luckily for me Garner Gliderport was findable on my GPS, Rock Candy Mountain still isn't.
