Trade association Interferry has a long track record of both direct and indirect support for safe and environmentally sound solutions in the small ferries sector, a reputation it has won through high-profile presentations at its annual conferences, bringing its member operators, designers and builders together, and through its joint initiative with the IMO to improve domestic ferry safety in developing nations. Unsurprisingly, therefore, Interferry has long been a champion of, and served as a platform for, the ferry sector's unfolding interest in green craft technology. Regarding electrification, Interferry suggests that the recent rapid concept development and market uptake offers significant advantages, especially for short services, in terms of environmental benefits and the opportunities for alternative power train arrangements.
