Eighteenth century, Fiction, Nineteenth century, United Kingdom With the marked exceptions of Jane Austen and Sir Walter Scott, discussion of the canon of British literature in the Romantic period has centred upon its poets. This new title in the Cambridge Companions series, edited by two literature professors at Yale University, reflects a growth of critical interest in the diverse range of fiction produced in the British Isles between the mid-17608 and the early 1830s. With contributions from 11 other academics, mainly from North America, Richard Maxwell and Katie Trumpener have assembled a stimulating introduction of both breadth and economy.
