Treaties with American Indians: An Encyclopedia of Rights, Conflicts, and Sovereignty fosters understanding of the complex legal and socioeconomic relationships between North American indigenous groups and their non-Native counterparts, from pre-European and early colonial periods to the present. Donald L. Fixico, Arizona State University, served as general editor; numerous other academic and legal scholars prepared articles with suggested readings and citations to major laws and court cases. The Encyclopedia assembles complex and scattered information, presents both Native and non-Native perspectives, and permits comparison of the USA and Canadian experiences.
