Compact Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament

When a subject has been so comprehensively and intensively studied for at least several hundred years, one would assume that its standard dictionaries were established long ago. In one respect that is the case with this dictionary, which is a revised version of Souter (1916). But subjects develop and progress, and background circumstances change, sometimes radically. In the case of New Testament Greek one can point to material from study of newly unearthed papyri, at the same time as the once widespread and detailed teaching of ancient Greek has declined, if not to oblivion then certainly to a level that would once have been believed unthinkable. New Testament studies continue, of course, for theological and other purposes, but the underpinning language education has largely been lost. Those coming to New Testament Greek today are as likely to be coming to any form of ancient Greek for the first time.
