Thankfully, I had the foresight to buy the alkaline battery pack when I purchased the FT-530. Unfortunately, the original design of the pack had three batteries on each half of the plastic shell and, to make a connection between the two halves, there was a springtab that was pressed against the docking tab on the other half-shell.
