Americans complacent about disasters

Safety product manufacturer Federal Signal Corp.'s 2012 Public Safety Survey reveals that the majority of Americans are complacent when it comes to federally declared disasters such as tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes. The nationwide survey of more than 2,000 adults found that although 56% of respondents believe they know the proper steps to take in the event of a disaster, 71% don't know if they have a personal alerting and notification system in their area. Furthermore, 70% don't know which sirens and sounds correspond with different warnings. More than one-quarter aren't even sure if their community uses a siren warning system.
