Prime minister David Cameron announced in January that a consultation for a sustainable framework for UK aviation would happen in March, in order to "set out long-term plans for the sector" and to "retain the UK's hub status". The study coincides with the publication of the government's aviation strategy. In October, transport secretary Justine Greening told parliament that Gatwick and Stansted will not be expanded, nor will support be given for a third runway at Heathrow. However, a call for evidence was issued for suggestions and ideas, which will be reviewed during the consultation.
