Changes to the code of corporate governance made by the Financial Reporting Council include a requirement that gender and diversity are taken into account when new board members are appointed. Directors of the UK's largest companies will also now have to be re-elected on an annual basis as a result of the changes, which come into effect on or after 29 June and will operate according to a 'comply or explain' method of enforcement.
