This paper describes a methodology to evaluate the maximum simultaneous power transfer of large interconnected power systems. The approach combines Monte Carlo simulation and AC optimal power flow, solved by a direct interior point algorithm, in order to calculate the maximum simultaneous transfer capability. In the developed procedure, power system problems caused by contingencies including voltage collapse are also taken into account. Cost studies with the IEEE RTS-96 and with a 1600-bus network derived from the Brazilian South/Southeast/Central West power system are presented and discussed.
