Renewable energy is being increasingly utilized in electric powernsystems due to environmental concerns and energy cost escalationnassociated with the use of conventional energy sources. Photovoltaicsnand wind energy sources can significantly offset costly fuel in smallnisolated systems and can also have considerable impact on the systemnreliability. The utilization of renewable energy in capacity planningnrequires realistic cost/reliability evaluation models that can recognizenthe highly erratic nature of these energy sources while maintaining thenchronology and interdependence of the random variables inherent in them.nThis paper presents an evaluation model and applies it to analyzenoptimum generation expansion of small isolated systems using PV and windnenergy sources
