摘要

The last time we published a "Future of the Car" special issue, in September 2004, we celebrated a new golden age of driving fostered by the convergence of power, performance and cheap gas. My, how times have changed in three years, with pump inflation and global-warming alarms conspiring to make some of our earlier hosannas sound almost quaint.
