Granadilla 2 inaugurated

Endesa chairman Borja Prado inaugurated November 10 the second combined cycle unit at the Granadilla plant in the south of the Canary Island of Tenerife. The €270 million plant, which consists of two gas and one steam turbine, raises the plant's installed capacity by 230 MW to 743 MW. Endesa's total installed capacity on Tenerife is now 1,059 MW. Meanwhile coal-fired generation has soared in Spain this year, reports gridco REE. Plants that use imported coal generated 129% more to July than in the same period last year, while domestic coal-fired plants generated 110% more. Contrary to forecasts, Endesa will this year import 3.7 million tons of coal from Indonesia for its As Pontes plant.
