Hurricane Ike could cost Entergy up to $625 mil, CenterPoint $500 mil

CenterPoint Energy and Entergy Texas last week restored power to the last of their customers who were cut off by Hurricane Ike, except for some 7,300 Entergy customers and a few thousand more CenterPoint customers along the Texas coast whose homes or businesses were so damaged they are unable to receive power. Also last week, Entergy Texas - whose transmission and distribution system was severely damaged by Ike - said it expects its Ike-related costs to total between $435 million and $510 million. Other utility subsidiaries of Entergy Corp. said their Ike costs would total between $90 million and $115 million. Entergy Gulf States/Louisiana's estimate was $65 million to $75 million; Entergy Arkansas' was $14 million to $20 million; Entergy Louisiana's was $10 million to $15 million, and Entergy New Orleans' was $1 million to $5 million. Texas-New Mexico Power estimated that restoring power and rebuilding its T&D system after Ike would cost between $30 million and $35 million. CenterPoint said earlier it expects its Ike-related costs to total between $350 million and $500 million (EUW, 29 Sept, 26).
