The Equality Act 2010 received Royal Assent on 8 April and implementation of the majority of the Act will begin on 1 October 2010. Disability is one of the protected characteristics covered by the Act, which will replace the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) and other legislation, and is set to deliver improved protection from discrimination for disabled people as part of strengthened and streamlined discrimination law.
