This book outlines the origins of the major schools of safety thinking and traces the heritage and inter-linkages of the ideas that make up safety science today. To do so, Professor Dekker has organised the content into 'time slices', with each chapter founded on the ideas of a particular era (which works out to be roughly a decade). He then explores how these ideas have influenced safety thinking in subsequent decades.
