摘要

Revalidation is designed to provide assurance to the public and employers that doctors and nurses remain up to date in their skills and knowledge and remain fit to practise. However, just over half (52%) of respondents to our November Tea-breaker poll said that revalidation had not helped ensure ongoing competence for OH nurses and doctors. Just under one-third (33%) said it had helped, while 15% were undecided. Doctors (67%) were more likely than OH nurses (48%) to say it had not helped; 25% of doctors and 33% of nurses said it had helped. The written comments included both critical and supportive views of revalidation. One OH nurses described it as 'a paper exercise with no value at all'. Another commented: 'While the intentions were clearly well motivated, revalidation has led to nurses pursuing quantity rather than quality with regard to achieving the required number of hours of CPD [continuing professional development].'
