摘要

A patient came to the office the other day asking nmy thoughts on the Sugar Busters diet book. She nbrought with her a copy that a friend had used. nWhile there have been literally thousands of diet books npublished over the last 20 years, only a few have really ncaptured the imagination and maintained a foothold in the nconsciousness of the dieting public. This is one of them. nThis book was updated in 2003, but my patient had a ncopy of the edition that was on The New York Times best-nseller list for almost 3 years from 1998 to 2001. It remains na steady seller and people often list it by name when they nthink of the most commonly used popular diets. When nthis patient showed me the book I recalled my reaction nfrom 7 years ago when I first read it. I remember think-ning: “...this is the worst diet book I have ever seen!” nHowever, given that my own views on diet books have nevolved since then, I decided to give it another look.
