Biological Bilge Water Treatment System

EnSolve Biosystems Inc. manufacturers oil water separators that utilize mechanical means for separating free-phase oil and biological means for processing residual emulsified oil in water. EnSolve installed its first biomechanical oil water separator, trade named the PetroLiminator~®, on board a Great Lakes ore carrier in January 2000. In the past five years PetroLiminator systems have been installed on numerous vessels and have discharged millions of gallons of treated bilge water below the required discharge standards. This paper will explore operational data from several of these installations and evaluate the data with current and pending regulations.
