This paper will address stages of the "System Oilfield" where water is contaminated with hydrocarbons. They are harmful if uncontrolled disposed to our environment. Centrifugal disc type separators are already successfully used or proposed to improve existing oily water treatment processes to conform with the increasingly stringent legislative regulations. Producing hydrocarbons on-and offshore the investor has to take cost -, safety-, process- and environmental aspects into account. Individual technical solutions are required to provide oil production offshore with optimum protection of our nature into the new millennium.
