The London Borough of Hackney is seeking two ambitious senior directors to help drive the organisation's ambitious agenda, and strategic response to COVID-19. Following a review of its senior management structure by Chief Executive Tim Shields, the council, led by an elected Mayor, needs a Group Director, Neighbourhoods and Housing and Group Director, Adults, Health and Integration. The council's 'Rebuilding a Better Hackney' programme is its response to the COVID-19 pandemic which it has called 'the greatest challenge to local government in the sector's history, especially in high density, diverse urban areas like Hackney.' Hackney says the pandemic has intensified existing challenges, while the Black Lives Matter movement has given renewed impetus to its already well developed work around equalities and inclusive leadership. Other issues include developing green transport, liveable streets, decarbonisation, a fairer and more sustainable local economy, and its sustainable procurement strategy.
