The chief executive of London Councils, John O'Brien, has announced he will step down from the role after 14 years. Mr O'Brien said it had been a 'tremendous privilege' to be at the centre of London government over the years. Chair of London Councils, Cllr Peter John, said Mr O'Brien had made a 'tremendous contribution' to local government in the capital, adding: 'We will be very sorry to see him go, but I understand his desire to explore new opportunities at this point in his career.' The departure will mark a stark change for the association as Cllr John will also be stepping down, having delayed quitting London Councils and as leader of Southwark due to the COVID crisis.
