Councils have been 'hamstrung' in their ability to settle equal pay claims by 'no-win, no-fee' lawyers who have 'not served any useful purpose', the managing director of the Local Government Employers said this week.Jan Parkinson's comments followed publication of new figures from Unison on 12 October, which revealed that some councils had spent up to £1.3m on lawyers determined to block equal pay claims by low-paid women.
