Cancer exemption from no-win, no-fee change

SUFFERERS of the industrial cancer mesothelioma will be exempt initially from the forthcoming changes to no-win, no-fee legal arrangements, the government has announced. Lawyers will still be able to claim fees from defendants who lose cases pending a review of the new arrangements. The changes to no-win, no-fee contracts - contained in the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill due to come into force next April, will prevent lawyers claiming "success fees" from the losing side in personal injury (PI) cases.
