The job of leading a local authority has evolved tremendously over the years. Though outstanding management skills will always be required, It's clear tbat in today's world - a world where technology is advancing, the funding pot is shrinking and demands on services are changing - the role of chief executive calls for many other attributes.As part of our ongoing drive to help the public sector develop inspiring and capable leaders, Penna is launching the 'Aspiring Chief Executive Programme' in September. To create this innovative programme, we needed to know what leading the local authority of the future is likely to involve. And who better to ask than the people who are running one right now? Our survey invited a cross-section of CEOs to tell us what it takes to be a leader in the future. We asked them what would help these leaders develop - and what advice they'd give them. The results made for interesting reading. Here we bring you a snapshot.
