South Korean Fighter Jets

South Korea's new round of bidding for its WON8.3 trillion ($7.4 billion) purchase of 60 next generation fighter jets, which was suspended after submitted bids did not meet the required price, is creating quite a ruckus. The contenders were Lockheed Martin's F-35, Boeing's F-15 SILENT EAGLE, and Eurofighter TYPHOON, bidding for an affordable yet highly capable aircraft to replace South Korea's aging fleet of F-4s starting from 2017. There is an urgent need to replace them the Air Force plans to replace all of its 70F-4s by 2019.
